Assembly and Convention Schedule:   Dear Voters:  Our precinct caucus meetings are scheduled for March 16^th at 7 PM.   Listed below is the list of precinct chairs and where those caucus meetings will be held.   We have some really exciting candidates running this year and your attendance at your caucus meetings is the first, important step in getting these good guys onto the primary ballot.   Run as a delegate yourself, or know who you’d like to represent you as delegates.  

 At the precinct meetings, each person interested in running as delegate will write his/her name at the front of the room, and then will take the floor for a couple of minutes to express why he/she would be a good delegate to County.  The number of delegates selected from each precinct varies between 5 and 12, depending on voter turnout in ’08.   One delegate from each precinct will also be chosen to go all the way to the State Assembly.  There will be a votes cast by written ballots for both County Delegates and the State Delegate.    Those choosing to be delegates must be aware of the time commitments they are making for the respective assemblies.

 The County Assembly will be held on March 28^th, at 2 PM at the Kremmling High School, and the State Assembly will be May 21^st and May 22^nd at the Budweiser Convention Center in Loveland.  This State Assembly is where final votes are cast to determine which candidates make it onto the primary election ballots for the summer primary elections.

Precinct Chairs 2010

Our County Clerk, Sara Rosene, is requesting comments from the public on our wishes regarding mail in voting.   Ms. Rosene responded to queries regarding the safety and efficacy of mail in voting: 

 ”I find that mail ballots are quite safe with regard to fraud.  Our judges verify signatures on the ballot envelope when it is returned by the voter.  We have, at least, 3 different signatures of every voter on file.  If our judges have any doubts about the signature, we write a letter to the voter to verify their signature.  We have been administering mail ballot elections for a number of years and I find they are very easy to manage.” 

Additionally she states, “  Mail ballots are a more cost effective way to administer an election.  The cost savings is generally in the area of election judges.  When we have a polling place election, we hire around 80 judges.”

Notice of Public Comment Period

 Notice is hereby given that the Grand County Clerk and Recorder will receive written public comment beginning on February 25, 2010 regarding whether or not the 2010 Primary Election shall be conducted by mail ballot, with a service center located at the Grand County Administration Building.  Please submit your comment in favor of or opposed to a Primary Election conducted by mail ballot by one of the following means:

 Public comments received on or before March 15, 2010 shall be entered into the record of the election and considered in the determination of whether or not to conduct a mail ballot Primary Election in Grand County.  A public hearing will be held on March 15, 2010, at the Grand County Administration Building, Board of Commissioners Hearing Room, 308 Byers Avenue, Hot Sulphur Springs, CO 80451 at 3:00 p.m.  No comment will be accepted after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010.

“Is any of this Constitutional?  No.  It certainly is far from it.  There is not a word in our Constitution that says the Federal Government should have any power to make any adjustments to our health care plans.  In fact, the 9^th Amendment of the Constitution says, “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”    This means that even if something is mentioned in the Constitution (which health care is NOT)  people still have all their rights.   And the 10^th Amendment tells the Federal Government “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”   This means that if the Founding Fathers forgot anything about what the Federal Government CAN’T do, well, they can’t do that either. 

I am angry with them in Washington for breaking Constitutional Law.  I hope you are, too.”
